GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate: what does the extra $20 buy?
The useful question is not whether the word Ultimate sounds better. It is whether the extras give you a reason to spend more.

The short answer
Our buying rule: start with Standard if you cannot name an Ultimate extra you actually want. If collecting vehicles or exploring the advertised additions is part of why you play GTA, inspect the bonus list before choosing. This is a preference-based recommendation, not evidence that the extras are good.
We have not played GTA VI or tested these bonuses. There is no ReviewPond quality score here, and no purchase is necessary to use this guide.

These are not worldwide prices or a promise about future discounts. Check the edition and currency in your own store. Check the PlayStation listings.
Do not count benefits advertised for both editions as reasons to pay for Ultimate. The current digital preorder listings also advertise a GTA+ month; that subscription can renew into a paid plan. Read its terms and cancellation date before claiming it.
What does the extra money get you?
Rockstar names the '95 Grotti Cheetah and Classic Car Collection among the Ultimate bonuses. They are the two examples in our video, not the complete package. Other listed additions cover vehicles, equipment, clothing and locations. Read Rockstar's complete edition list.
A feature name tells you what is advertised, not how enjoyable it is. We cannot turn that list into hours of entertainment, assign each item a cash value or promise how often you will use it. That would require evidence we do not have.
Try a simple test: choose one extra, explain why it interests you, then ask whether you would still pay more without the premium edition name attached. If your answer is only that you dislike missing out, give yourself time before buying.

Start your comparison with Standard. Spending more is a separate decision about the extras, not a requirement to buy the base game. Read the contents carefully before assuming a bonus is something you need.
Love collecting and customising?
Ultimate deserves a closer look if its named additions match your interests. Still separate the appeal of owning more things from evidence that those things improve your experience.
Undecided? Waiting is a valid choice. Our rule is not that everyone should buy Standard or that collectors should automatically buy Ultimate. It is that your reason should survive a look at the actual contents and your own budget.
Can you upgrade later?
Rockstar confirms a separately purchasable Ultimate upgrade for Standard owners. Check the upgrade conditions for your version.
Important: $99.99 minus $79.99 is the difference between the two edition listings. It does not establish the standalone upgrade price. We have not verified that price, so we are not claiming that buying Standard and upgrading later costs the same overall.
Treat the upgrade route as an option, not a guaranteed saving. Compare the actual total when that decision becomes relevant.
Before you pay
- Confirm your platform, store region, currency and final checkout total.
- Identify which benefits are edition extras and which are shared preorder offers.
- Check what a physical purchase actually contains. Rockstar describes a download code rather than a disc; a box is not proof of a playable disc.
- Do not confuse downloading ahead of release with permission to play early.
- Read subscription renewal, redemption and retailer refund terms before ordering.
- If you cannot identify an extra you value, pause instead of letting the edition name decide.
