Is Character.AI worth it in 2026?
Character.AI has a massive, genuinely enthusiastic user base, 552,046 iTunes ratings averaging 4.3, built on creative roleplay, companionship, and character variety, and for those use cases it delivers something real. The core problem is that overly strict content filters, the single most complained-about issue at 9 of the sampled reviews, directly undermine the creative freedom the app is sold on: users are promised an open-ended roleplay sandbox and find their prompts refused or conversations steered into sanitized territory.
