Is Onryo worth it in 2026?

Holding a mixed 56% positive rating across 191 Steam reviews, Onryo struggles to make a compelling case for your library. The available data records no notable praises, and a sampled review characterizes the experience as confusing, excessively dark, and ultimately boring. That player singled out the ghost camera as the most frustrating element, unfavorably comparing it to a budget version of Fatal Frame. Given the mediocre reception and apparent friction in its central mechanic, most players are better off skipping this title.

Best for

Die-hard fans of Japanese horror concepts who are willing to endure severe rough edges for a Fatal Frame-inspired premise.

Watch out

A sampled reviewer reported near-impenetrable visual darkness, disorienting progression, and an unwieldy ghost camera mechanic.
