Is The Convenience Store worth it in 2026?
An 82% positive rating from over 3,000 Steam reviews signals broad approval, but the split is structural, not incidental: fans are buying the PSX/VHS lo-fi aesthetic, the Silent Hill-adjacent atmosphere, and genuine jumpscares that deliver on the horror promise, while detractors are stuck in a ~60-minute game that drags like three hours because repetitive back-and-forth tasks, no inventory system, and minimal environmental interaction turn every errand into a slog. The story conclusion is a real liability, some reviewers found it not compelling, with the cultural framing around Japanese beliefs not landing for them, which matters because the atmosphere and visual style are doing the heavy lifting right up until the ending. Without an inventory, you'll make the same trips multiple times by design. The 82% reflects horror-aesthetic fans tolerating weak mechanics for the mood, not a game that earns its score across the board.

- Funny enough, Markiplier was the one who brought me to this game and it was amazing! I wish there was more to the game, ending wise, but it defiantly gave me the chills.

- This was my first Chilla's Art game. I won't be playing any of their others. Even though the game is only 60 minutes long, it feels like 3 hours, because it's so extremely boring...
- I did like it, but the overall story wasn't really consistent. I also wish I had an inventory because it was annoying I had to keep going back and forth with some tasks.
