ReviewPond analysis

Is Until Dawn worth it in 2026?

Until Dawn earns its 83% positive rating as a genuinely gripping playable slasher film, the story pulls you forward, the jump scares land repeatedly, and the cinematic presentation is polished enough that a single blind playthrough is hard to put down. The 'your choices matter' premise, however, is largely an illusion: only character survival actually changes, the ending is the same on every run, and characters carry plot armor through key sections, so anyone expecting Telltale-style branching will feel misled rather than surprised. The PC port compounds this with documented performance problems including lag in specific areas, relentless bugs, and crashes serious enough that at least one reviewer called it arguably the worst PC port ever done, on PC, unplayability is a real risk, not a footnote. Treat it as a one-time horror experience, buy it at a meaningful discount, and go in knowing the interactivity is thinner than advertised.

Best for

Horror fans who want a cinematic, story-driven scare-fest and are content to play it once like a slasher movie, not players seeking a replayable, genuinely branching narrative.

Watch out

The PC port has serious, documented performance and crash issues that can make the game unplayable; and the choice-driven premise collapses under scrutiny, only which characters survive differs between runs, with the ending and major story beats locked regardless of what you do.
