Is Shinkansen 0 worth it in 2026?

Shinkansen 0 holds 86% positive across 1,135 Steam reviews, a B-minus for a short indie horror game, which means a real portion of players left disappointed. The core mechanic is simple enough to pick up immediately: you ride a train, spot what's wrong, repeat. That accessibility is genuine, but it also exposes the game's structural problem, when your entire identity is one mechanic, "tedious to search" and "anomalies blur together" aren't minor gripes, they're the foundation cracking. The Chilla's Art atmosphere of creeping, looping dread is present, but it can only carry so much weight when the thing you're actually doing stops feeling rewarding. Two achievements being purely RNG-dependent in a game this short is indefensible: completionists will grind a repetitive loop with no guaranteed exit, which is a poor design choice regardless of how charming the studio's reputation is.

Best for

Chilla's Art devotees who want a low-commitment atmospheric horror session and have no interest in 100% completion, the unsettling loop-based tension the studio is known for is here, just thinner than usual.

Watch out

Two achievements are locked behind pure RNG with no skill component, so completionists face an open-ended grind inside a short, repetitive loop; and players who find the anomaly-hunting tedious early will find nothing else in the game to fall back on.

    • This game is okay (more good than bad) but why on earth are two of the achievements completely RNG based??
    • Pretty good anomaly finder game with a little bit of story attached. Finding the last few anomalies was a little tedious, but still a good time.

    • There is just something about Chillas Art games that I love. Probably the unsettling uncertainty of that is gonna happen next or the simple "stuck in a loop" type games but I alway...
